If this were true, why are there still apes? If animals are able to "adapt" or "evolve" to better cope with living situations (scientists have long claimed that giraffes necks have elongated over time to enable them to reach the tree tops and that elephants trunks elongated for the same reason). Not everyone believes that we have descended from apes. ![]() Our legislators should look carefully into outlawing personal ownership of wild animals. ![]() The woman that owned the chimp should be held responsible for the damage done to the neighbor, period. As a youngster, I dreamed of having a pet cougar but as I grew older I realized the folly of that dream. I agree that wild animals should not be domesticated. Oprah Winfrey: Chimp Victim "Doesn't Recall Attack" Posted at Novem4:23 AM It may be an act of God's mercy that she does not recall the attack, but the effects of it will still live with her forever, and she certainly ought to be provided for as well as is possible.Ī Connecticut woman who was mauled and blinded after a 200-pound chimpanzee attacked her in February is set to appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show." Chicago-based Harpo Productions said in a Monday statement that Charla Nash will appear on Wednesday's episode of Winfrey's talk show. Since the day of the attack, the chimp victim has understandably pursued a million dollar lawsuit, for restitution on the horrible life altering injuries she suffered as the chimp brutalized her face and hands. The victim of the chimp attack in which a woman's pet primate brutally assaulted her friend before being killed by police is appearing in public for the first time, as she speaks to Oprah Winfrey about her ordeal. The images of Nash are shocking, her buoyant hopefulness is inspiring, and both of those points should prompt another look at Travis’ trajectory from his days as a baby chimpanzee to his years as a confined adult “pet.” Travis, who appeared in several commercials when he was an infant, was just one of many exotic animals who have been torn away from their mothers at a young age in order to be raised by people who don’t fully understand their needs. During the show, Nash declared her readiness to move on and said that she had an optimistic outlook on the future. Nash, who has been in a hospital since the attack, appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and spoke for the first time about her recovery. Earlier this year, Travis, a 15-year-old “pet” chimpanzee, was stabbed repeatedly, pounded with a shovel, and finally shot to death after he attacked a Connecticut woman named Charla Nash.
